Follow the path of the Darling River, visiting historic stations and enjoying tours along the way. Visit the historic ghost town of Silverton, the home of Mad Max, and enjoy a river cruise at Menindee and a visit to the incredible Mungo National Park and China Wall.

This safari will have a mixture of gravel and sealed roads.  Due to the nature of the area travelled (there will be gravel roads, dust etc), speeds will be kept to a minimum on the gravel sections and each day’s travel time may be adjusted accordingly


12 August  Meet at Lightning Ridge have a meet and greet happy hour and dinner together (dinner included, power)

13 August  Enjoy a tour of an Opal Mine, the gem that put Lightning Ridge on the map. Happy hour in the afternoon

14 August   We head off to Brewarrina and stay at a free camp on the river and enjoy a fire at happy hour (fires if permitted, no power)

15 August   We travel to Bourke and stay at Kidman Camp for 2 nights (power). We will have dinner together and listen to poetry, stories and music at Poetry on a Plate (dinner included)

16 August  Today you will be picked up by a coach and enjoy a tour of the Back O’ Bourke which will include the Outback Centre, Darling River Cruise and Stockman Show (lunch included)

17 August  Travel past Louth and stay at Killara Station on the Darling River (power). Happy hour and if permitted, we will enjoy a camp fire and camp oven cook up

18 August   We travel into Wilcannia and just out of town we camp on the Darling River at Warrawong on the  Darling. We will enjoy a camp fire (if permitted) and happy hour and watch the variety of birds and amazing sunsets. Try your hand at fishing or just relax.

19 August   We travel into Broken Hill and out of town to the ghost town of Silverton, famous for mining and  also where the Mad Max movie was filmed.  We stay at Penrose Park for 3 nights where you can walk into the ghost town, see the Mad Max Museum among other historic buildings, and have lunch at the iconic pub. Get together for happy hour in the afternoon (museum fees included)

20 August    Enjoy a full day tour – itinerary TBA – includes history of Broken Hill, Dream Time Mine, (morning tea and lunch included)

21 August    Travel to Menindee and stay at Menindee Lakes Caravan Park, enjoy the scenic lake as you relax and have happy hour (power)

22 August    Relax and then enjoy a river cruise on the Darling River – cruise TBA (includes lunch)

23 August     Leaving Menindee we travel towards Pooncarie. We stop at Tolarano Station for morning tea then travel on to Pooncarie for the night (power)

24 August      We head into Mungo National Park where we will stay for 2 nights in the camp ground  and enjoy happy hour together (no power)

25 August      Enjoy an easy guided walk of the iconic walls of china and the natural wonders of Mungo National Park. Take in the scenery and enjoy a self-guided walk. Meet back at camp for happy hour.

26 August       Today we head back to Pooncarie for the night and enjoy happy hour together (power)

27 August       For our last day together we head into Wentworth, where the Darling meets the Murray. We stay in Wentworth and enjoy a final happy hour and dinner together (dinner included, power)

28 August      Today we say farewell to our new-found friends and continue our travels independently
