Safaris - Birdsville & Beyond
Heard about the iconic Birdsville Track and the remote town of Birdsville? Would like to experience the real outback? Why not travel the Birdsville Track with us, and visit Big Red for a sunset tour. We will also have time to explore the history of Silverton and Birdsville and the impact that it had on the West. We will have dinner at the iconic Birdsville Pub. We will start at Euston CMCA park and travel north, heading up the Birdsville Track and back into Western Queensland where we will visit Winton, home of the dinosaurs, Quilpie and Longreach, visiting the Stockmans Hall of Fame and more, ending at St George.

We gather at Euston CMCA Park for the start of our safari between the hours of 1pm – 3pm. Enjoy a relaxing afternoon meeting your fellow travellers and then we will get together for a 2 course dinner. Please arrive with grey/black tanks empty, fuel tanks full and water storage full. Unpowered sites.
This morning, after our travel briefing, we will set off to our first stop at the historic town of Silverton. We will stop on the way for a lunch and arrive at Penrose Park in time for happy hour. Power, toilets, showers (393 km)
Today we can enjoy the Silverton Heritage Walking Trail and walk for as little or long as you like, there is plenty of history to take in this town. At night we will get together for a 2 course dinner at the local pub (2 course meal included)
This morning we leave historic Silverton and travel to Peterborough and stay overnight in a free camp, no facilities, If there’s time left in the day take a look at the Steamtown Heritage Rail Centre or just sit back and relax (351 km)
This morning we leave Peterborough and travel to Parachilna and stay at a camp ground, no power, t/s, laundry, shout yourself dinner at the Prairie Hotel or just kick back and relax (233 km)
Today we travel to the Historic Marree Hotel for our overnight stay. Here we will enjoy a 2 course dinner at the historic pub (dinner included). Marree is at the junction of Oodnadatta and the Birdsville Track. Take a look around the museum and relax. No power, no generators allowed (184 km)
Today we begin our trek up the Birdsville Track to Mungerannie where we will stay at the famous Mungerannie Hotel, known as the quirkiest pub in the outback – no power or facilities (204 km)
Today we make our way to Birdsville where we will stay at the Birdsville Caravan Park, getting there in time for happy hour hopefully – unpowered, t/s, laundry and water, enjoy some time together around the camp fire (depending on fire bans), dump point, fuel (314 km)
Today we enjoy a day at Birdsville, maybe grab some morning tea at the Birdsville Bakery and take in the bird life and the history, stock driving history etc. In the afternoon you will get picked up by a luxury coach and enjoy a Big Red Sunset Tour to the famous Big Red where a 4x4 bus will take meet you and take you up Big Red.
Enjoy a free day relaxing at Birdsville, taking the time to do any maintenance work required.
Today we travel to Boulia where we stay overnight at a free camp for the night, no facilities (382 km)
Today we head to Winton where we will stay at the Winton Showgrounds where we will be camped for the next 2 nights, arriving in time for happy hour – dump point, t/s, water, unpowered, fuel (362 km)
Enjoy some free time in the morning then be picked up by coach at 1:30 to enjoy a tour of the Australian Age of Dinosaurs then stay for a sunset tour with spectacular views to Winton and return to your motorhome at 7:30 pm. Included in the tour are sunset nibbles
Today we head off to Longreach where we will stay at the Longreach Tourist Park for 2 nights, arriving in time for afternoon tea and happy hour – dump point, water, power, t/s , laundry (179 km)
Today we will visit the Museum, Hall of Fame and Art Gallery. At night we will enjoy the Outback Stockman’s Show and spit roast and veg dinner (entrance, show and meal included)
Today we travel to Windorah and stay overnight at Cooper Creek camp area outside Windorah, no facilities. (315 km)
Today we travel to Quilpie home to largest dinosaur found in Australia “Cooper”, where we will stay at Channel Country Tourist Park & Spas, enjoy the hot artesian spas at the campground and arrive in time for happy hour, dump point, water, t/s, power , laundry(246 km)
Today you can enjoy a walk to the Eromanga Natural History Museum and a 2 hour town history coach tour with free time in the afternoon.
Today we travel to Noccundra where we will camp at the Noccundra Hotel, unpowered and limited powered sites, s/t. At dinner time we will have a 2 course dinner at the pub (included) dinner at pub. While we are here why not explore the ruins of the Old Noccundra Store and Police Station. (283 km)
Today we travel to Cunnamulla and stay overnight at a campground, limited power, t/s, water (337 km)
Today we make our way to our final destination of St George stopping at Nindugully Pub for a lunch stop, travelling to Pelican Rest Tourist Park for our final stop. Enjoy a dip in the heated theraputic mineral pool. At dinner we will get together for a 2 course meal to farwell each other, power, t/s, water, laundry (294 km)
Today we farewell each other as we head off on our independent travels, safe travels!
Total distance 4,077 km On this trip there will be considerable rough dirt roads, whilst the Birdsville track is used by trucks and vehicles it can have bad corrugations on sections, we will travel a suitable speeds and tyre pressures will be adjusted to suit, there is always the chance that minor damage may occur to your vehicle. For the most part we will be on sealed sections north of Birdsville. It will be important for you to have a well serviced vehicle, and relevant spare parts. This part of Australia is spectacular and a must see, but it can be a very harsh environment
Highlights of this safari will be travelling up the iconic Birdsville Track, seeing Big Red and outback Australia.
We will allow for fuel stops and dump stops every couple of days. You will have opportunities also to stock up on groceries on the way.
