11 Day Tour Warialda to Oberon 14 – 24 October 2018

Do you like black and gold?  Do you like looking at gorgeous gem stones?  Are you interested in learning about Australian history?  If the answer is 'yes, sign me up!', then this safari is for you. On this 11 day tour, we will explore iconic Australian outback destinations whilst travelling from Warialda to Oberon.  Destinations include Lightning Ridge, Dubbo Zoo, Burren Junction Bore Baths, Red Earth Estate Winery, Wellington Caves, historic Hill End and ending at Oberon. Each day we allow early stops for rest and relaxation including happy hours.  We are travelling on bitumen roads.

Itinerary

Day 1
14th October 2018

We gather in Warialda at Cranky Rock Reserve for the start of our safari between the hours of 1pm-3pm.  Enjoy a relaxing afternoon partaking in short nature walks, admiring the rock formations or take a dip in the rock pools at Cranky Rock.  We also share our first dinner together as a group (BBQ dinner provided) to get to know each other.  Unpowered sites available only.  Please arrive with sewage tanks empty.  Unpowered sites, water, toilets and showers available.

Day 2
15th October 2018

This morning, after our travel briefing, we will set off on a scenic route to the famous Burren Junction Bore Baths. The baths are artesian water filled at a toasty temperature of 41.5 degrees year-round. Just think of the therapeutic qualities as you ease any aches and pains you may have.  It is also our camping spot tonight,which is located near Walgett, the “Gateway to the Opal Fields.  Unpowered sites, filtered water, dump point available. Travel approx. 247km’s.

Day 3
16th October 2018

Today, we really start adventuring into Black Opal Country.  We will be travelling to Lightning Ridge to our home for the next two nights.  Our destination is CMCA Friendly Lightning Ridge Tourist Park.  Once we arrive, we have some free time to relax and enjoy happy hour.  In the evening, we will be heading out to enjoy a delicious 2 course meal at the local pub (dinner included).  Powered sites available, water, toilets, showers, laundry, dump point.  Travel approx. 160km’s.

Day 4
17th October 2018

Today, we will be picked up by luxury coach to enjoy a tour of the famous opal mines operated by Black Opal Tours.  We will discover the history behind the mines and hear stories of yesteryear as well as seeing beautiful opals.  In the afternoon, you have some free time to sit and relax and enjoy each other’s company.

Day 5
18th October 2018

Today, we leave Black Opal country and make our way to Dubbo.  Our destination for today is the beautiful Red Earth Estate Winery.  Here, we will indulge our senses with some wine tasting and enjoy a delicious 2 course dinner at the winery (dinner included).  This is a self-contained establishment so please make sure you empty your toilets at Lightning Ridge and fill your water tanks before leaving in the morning.  Travel approx. 363km’s.

Day 6
19th October 2018

This morning, you will be collected by luxury coach to enjoy a day tour to the famous Dubbo Zoo.  Exploring the park by coach, you will be driven to each animal enclosure to view their antics, see them feeding and to learn about them as well.  Please bring your walking shoes as there will be some short walking to be done.  Once we arrive back at the winery, you can sit back and relax and enjoy your evening. (Light sandwich, drink and cake lunch at the zoo is included)

Day 7
20th October 2018

Today, we leave Dubbo and head to the beautiful Wellington Caves.  Only a short drive today, just 67km’s.  We will be staying at the Wellington Caves Holiday Complex.  This afternoon will be free time to relax before we start more adventures tomorrow.  Powered sites available, water, toilets, showers, laundry, dump point.  Travel approx. 67km’s.

Day 8
21st October 2018

Today we will be going cave adventuring!  Bring your walking shoes as we will be going on three different guided tours: the Cathedral Cave, the Gaden Cave and the Phosphate Mine.  Each tour takes approx. 1 hour to complete.  The caves have handrails are easily accessible to those with reasonable mobility.  There are 150 steps at Cathedral and 120 steps in Gaden Cave.  The Phosphate Mine is wheelchair friendly.  We will see stalactites, stalagmites, cave coral and flowstone in the caves.  We will see a functioning mine during World War 1 while we explore mine shafts as well as uncovered Australian Megafauna Fossils.  Relax in the afternoon around happy hour and relax those feet.

Day 9
22nd October 2018

This morning, we will leave the beautiful Wellington Caves and journey via a scenic route to the historical Hill End.  We will be staying in the heart of town at The Village Campground.  From here, you can spend the afternoon independently exploring the gorgeous heritage buildings and mine relics and learn about the fascinating history of the gold rush at Hill End.  In the evening, we will gather again to enjoy a BBQ dinner together (dinner provided).  Powered and un-powered sites available, water, toilets, showers, laundry and dump point.  Max. RV length is 9m.  Accommodation may change if we have larger RVs travelling with us. Travel approx. 163km’s.

Day 10
 23rd October 2018

We depart the historic Hill End and we travel to Oberon which is part of the breathtaking Blue Mountains.  We will be staying at Jenolan Holiday Park.  We are located near the spectacular Kanangra Walls, so why not explore the area in the afternoon.  In the evening, we will enjoy a 2 course farewell dinner together (dinner provided). Dump Point, t/s, power and water.  Travel approx. 121km’s.

Day 10
24th October 2018

In the morning, say farewell to new found safari friends and depart Oberon to travel to your next independent destination.  Safe travels!

  • Opportunity to shop, refuel and access to dump points max. 3 days apart if required
  • Actual safari route to be confirmed and issued to safari members 1 month prior to safari start date
  • Some powered sites are limited, first in-best dressed
