Darling River Run 2024

Join us and explore the Darling River, enjoy the history and spectacular outback scenery and campfires and friendships on this must do trip.  Come with us and your fellow members and enjoy the security of travelling in a group and having an experienced tour guide leading the way. We start at Nindigully and work our way down to where the history of the river begins, travelling through Bourke and staying at stations on the Darling River along the way. Learn about the mining history at Broken Hill and stay at the quirky town of Silverton. Stay and visit the spectacular Mungo National Park where you will learn about Mungo Man & Mungo Lady, and finish the tour at Wentworth where the Darling meets the Mighty Murray. This is a 15 day trip, covering roughly 500km of unsealed roads. It is suitable for all types of vehicles.

Itinerary

Day 1  Meet up at Nindigully Pub, just south of St George. We will camp behind the pub and enjoy happy hour and dinner together (dinner included)

Day 2  On our first day of travel we head to Hebel Pub for one night. Enjoy dinner together at the pub (included)

Day 3 We travel to Bourke and stay at Kidman Camp for two nights

Day 4 Enjoy a tour at the Back O Bourke Centre, lunch and a river cruise (all included)

Day 5 We continue our travels on the Darling River staying at Rose Isle Station for the night (campfires if permitted, morning tea the next morning provided)

Day  6 Continue on our travels down the Darling River staying at Trilby Station for two nights

Day  7  Free day to sit and relax, read a book, sit around the campfire (if fires permitted), cook up a meal in the camp oven, explore the station or listen to the station owners tell you about the station. 

Day  8 Today we get back on the bitumen and travel to Wilcannia where we stay at Warrawong on the Darling River for one night (water, power and laundry facilities available).

Day  9  Continuing on the bitumen we travel through Broken Hill to Penrose Park in Silverton, where we will stay for two nights.  Why not have a meal at the Silverton Pub or visit the Mad Max Museum. It is an easy walk into the township of Silverton, with galleries, bakery, and plenty more to keep you busy for a few hours.

Day  10 Be collected by coach for a full day tour of Broken Hill which includes the Daydream Mine, underground mine tour, lunch, The Big Picture (Silver City Mint) Broken Hill City Sights (including exclusive Mine entry returning at 4pm)

Day  11 Today we get back on the unsealed road and follow the Darling staying at Menindee on the river for the night, camp fires (if permitted).  Enjoy a one hour boat cruise at Menindee (TBC)

Day 12 Today we travel through Pooncarie to Mungo National Park where we will stay for two nights.

Day 13 Enjoy a sunset tour in the Mungo National Park including China Wall and learn about Mungo Man and Mungo Lady.  

Day  14 Travel to Wentworth for our final night together, where the Darling meets the Murray.

Day  15  Today we say farewell to our new-found friends and continue our travels independently.

Please note

This safari will have a mixture of gravel and sealed roads. Due to the nature of the area travelled (there will be gravel roads, dust etc), speeds will be kept to a minimum on the gravel sections and each day’s travel time may be adjusted accordingly
